WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden Administration’s new standards for clean cars will accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles and help address one of the primary drivers of climate change and air pollutants that threaten people and wildlife alike. The administration’s plan calls for stronger fuel efficiency and emissions standards for light-duty vehicles, along with calling for half of cars sold by 2030 to be zero-emission vehicles.

“With wildfires threatening lives and homes in Western states, a record drought underway, and an intensifying hurricane season, it's clear we need a best-of-the-above approach to reducing emissions and spurring innovation from both policymakers and the private sector,” said Shannon Heyck-Williams, senior director of climate and energy policy for the National Wildlife Federation. “The Biden Administration’s improved fuel efficiency standards and revved up deployment of electric vehicles not only create clean manufacturing jobs, but are critical to protecting public health and stabilizing the climate for people and wildlife alike. This new plan from the White House is a significant step in addressing the single greatest source of U.S. greenhouse gas pollution — transportation.”
