WASHINGTON, D.C. — The death of Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, is a loss for the labor and conservation community. National Wildlife Federation President and CEO Collin O’Mara said the best way to honor his memory is for our leaders and the advocacy community to strive for solutions that support workers and the environment.

“President Trumka was a giant in the labor movement and a dear friend of mine and the entire National Wildlife Federation family. He was a visionary who never accepted the false dichotomy that we have to choose between a vibrant economy and healthy people and natural resources,” O’Mara said. “Rich’s courage to not just acknowledge the reality of climate change, but to lead the entire labor movement to be a constructive and powerful force in the pursuit of solutions that support good union jobs, healthy communities, and a more just society is a big reason why we are united on the precipice of making historic progress. We will forever honor Rich’s legacy by never losing sight of how standing in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters is critical to addressing the many interrelated challenges facing our nation."
