TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ (BPU) latest announcement of two offshore wind contracts will bring 3,742 MW of clean energy capacity, enough to power more than 1.8 million homes, and thousands of jobs to the state. These projects, which should be completed by 2030, will bring New Jersey closer to its goal of achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2035. The BPU selected Invenergy Wind LLC and energyRE's Leading Light Wind project for 2,400 MW and Attentive Energy to develop a 1,342 MW project.
“The greatest existential threat to wildlife and humans alike is the worsening effects of the climate crisis. To stem this crisis, we must rapidly move toward a future powered by clean energy technologies. Responsibly developed offshore wind will not only provide clean energy but thousands of good paying jobs and increased energy independence for the state. We look forward to working with wildlife experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to ensure that offshore wind projects bolster communities while minimizing harm to ecosystems,” said Amber Hewett, senior director of Offshore Wind Energy at the National Wildlife Federation.
These awards are in response to a solicitation from the state in 2023, which allows companies to bid on potential offshore wind projects in New Jersey. Learn more information on the National Wildlife Federation’s work to advance responsibly developed offshore wind power in the Atlantic.
