President Carter Will Be Remembered As Conservation Champion

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former President Jimmy Carter will be remembered as a conservation champion with marks on lands and water conservation, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and the transition toward clean energy. The National Wildlife Federation shared its condolences with Carter’s family and urged others to draw inspiration from his leadership.

"President Jimmy Carter's passing is a moment for us to remember not only his conservation achievements, but also to challenge ourselves to find common ground when addressing the immense and interconnected challenges of our time. As one of the most important public lands champions to lead the country, his leadership is apparent even decades after he left office," said Collin O'Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. "From protecting irreplaceable wildlife habitat in Alaska, including adding 10 million acres to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, to his support for free-flowing rivers and vibrant riparian ecosystems, we can see his passion for nature in the lands and waters that generations enjoy now four decades on from his time in office. President Carter also focused on solutions closer to home for millions, including supporting essential efficiency standards and installing solar panels atop the White House. He demonstrated time and time again his commitment to conservation.
