President Should Build Upon Historic Commitments to Address Climate, Wildlife, Environmental Justice Crises

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden should prioritize climate action, conservation, environmental justice, and the transition to clean energy in his upcoming State of the Union, building on his historic legislative victories, including the Inflation Reduction Act and bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“President Biden has done more to address the climate and environmental justice crises than any of his predecessors — and in ways that support the people who have powered our nation and its economy for generations. The State of the Union is strong, and now is the time for President Biden to build upon his victories for people and wildlife alike,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “We look forward to hearing his commitment to accelerating the deployment of clean energy and the restoration of our natural resources to create millions of good paying jobs and addressing long-standing environmental injustices through the equitable implementation of the historic Inflation Reduction Act. We also hope the president will continue to prioritize recovering the full diversity of wildlife, including by passing bipartisan legislation like the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act. By highlighting progress on conservation, restoration, and outdoor recreation, the president can remind us what unites us, despite the divisive politics of our time.”
