Ryan Lambert Honored with National Conservation Leadership Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ryan Lambert, a Louisiana-based conservationist, sportsman and small business owner, has received the National Wildlife Federation’s annual Conservation Leadership Award. A champion of coastal restoration in the Mississippi River Delta, Lambert has played a foundational role in delivering policy victories and educating politicians, media members and the public on the importance of conservation efforts in the region.

“Ryan’s impact on coastal Louisiana is truly unmatched,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “Whether speaking to Congress or leading boat tours through the bayou, he’s been a tireless advocate for one of the most unique ecosystems in the country. His expertise and deep passion has made him an ideal spokesman for conservation efforts, offering an example that advocates nationwide can follow.”

“I’m incredibly appreciative of the recognition, and for all of Louisiana's advocates at both a national and local level,” said Lambert. “Few can visit the region without being awestruck by its beauty and biological diversity, and it’s been a privilege to share that with so many over the years.”

Lambert is Captain and Owner of Cajun Fishing Adventures in southeast Louisiana, a hunting and fishing lodge he’s operated since 1980. In recent years, he’s played an increasingly active role as a spokesman for the region, often speaking with legislators, journalists and other leaders about the need for restoration efforts throughout the delta. As part of this advocacy, he regularly partners with the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and other National Wildlife Federation initiatives, such as Restore the Mississippi River Delta and Vanishing Paradise. He’s also worked with Ducks Unlimited, another conservation organization, on a restoration project that has yielded over 2,000 acres thus far.

The National Wildlife Federation Conservation Achievement Awards began in 1966. Since then, the National Wildlife Federation has celebrated individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting wildlife through education, advocacy, communication and on-the-ground conservation. Previous honorees have included former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, First Ladies Lady Bird Johnson and Michelle Obama, and other national leaders, including U.S. Senator John McCain and filmmaker Robert Redford.
