A stork-billed kingfisher in high-speed action
AFTER PATIENTLY WAITING for its prey at a freshwater quarry in Singapore’s Dairy Farm Nature Park, a stork-billed kingfisher spears a tilapia. “I enjoy high-speed action photography,” says Tze Siong Tan, who also waited patiently to make this shot.
“I had been coming to observe these birds for several weeks. Capturing a kingfisher emerging from the water with its prey is a dream shot—a moment too fleeting for the human eye.” Tan, who made this image in August 2020 during the pandemic, says photography helped him “de-stress” and “continue to appreciate this amazing world we inhabit.”
